Getting Started for Catechists

An 8 hour introduction for new or discerning catechists. This short course will highlight main points in the General Directory for Catechesis, A Guide for Catechists, and focus on the tasks of catechesis. While maintaining the foundational principles of this course we are able to adapt the material to your specific team of catechists.

Catechetical Foundations 101 (Audio Introduction)
Catechetical Foundations 101 is an 18-20 hour course designed to provide you with the foundations of studying and handing on the deposit of faith.  The primary focus is not on human methodology, but on God’s methodology, also called the Pedagogy of God.  This course spends time with the foundational truths of the faith, the necessity of the Catechism of the Catholic Church in study and teaching, the primacy ofgrace, the organic unity of the faith, teaching Scripturally and Liturgically, and offers an introduction to the ecclesial method as presented by Msgr. Francis Kelly.

Catechetical Foundations 201 (Audio Introduction)
Catechetical Foundations 201 is an 18-20 hour course that picks up where 101 ends by examining further the ecclesial method.  Some time is spent on the fundamentals of handing on the faith, then we move to essential Christological and Mariological truths; as well as examining some of the catechetical models of the early Church fathers.

Catechetical Foundations 301
Catechetical Foundations 301  is a 10-12 hour course that provides an foundational look at liturgical theology and the fundamentals of prayer.

Foundations in Scripture
A 10-15 hour course exploring the place of Scripture in the catechist’s life, in catechesis, and in the Church. This course will provide the necessary tools to help catechists place Scripture in it’s rightful place, as the driving force of catechesis.

Youth Ministry Leader/Volunteer Training
This very adaptable topic can be done as a weekend conference, one day seminar, over several meetings, or a speaking engagement. We reflect on the components of youth ministry provided in Renewing the Vision, spirituality of the youth ministry leader, relational ministry, teamwork, leadership principles, and more. Let us know your needs and we will create a session for you!

Philosophical Foundations
Exploring life’s basic questions of Who we are, What will happen to us when we die, and how we ought to live.  In exploring these questions we will discuss lower and higher ways of living, permanence versus temporal and artificial  ways of living, and different levels of knowledge.  All this has foundational implications for daily living and effective catechesis.  Contact us today to learn more about how this class can benefit your audience.  This class is 18-20 hours long and can be done in both weekend and weekly formats, depending on location and travel.
